New Orleans contractors push for higher surge protection gates

Contractors in New Orleans have put two 175-ton sector gates in place to try to block storm surge from crashing through a canal, but the Army Corps of Engineers asked if the gates could be built taller to offer better storm protection. Officials say they would like the $40 million gates to be built four feet taller to meet the latest storm protection criteria.
