Thailand to give free laptops to schoolchildren

Thailand's effort to provide low-cost laptops to all of its elementary school students will start this fall with 530 laptops as part of the U.S.-based "One Laptop per Child" project, Prime Minster Thaksin Shinawatra has announced. The devices, which cost about $100, will run the Linux operating system and use flash memory instead of a hard drive.
