Mass. biotechs nervous, hopeful about doctor-gift rules

A new Massachusetts law restricting gifts from drug and device firms to physicians spurred protests from the state's life-sciences industry, but several companies remained optimistic that the rules can be implemented without hampering relationships with doctors. Gov. Deval Patrick sent a letter to lawmakers saying the regulations are not designed to hinder medical research or impede training programs for health care providers.
