A new book challenges the notion that entrepreneurs are generally good for the economy. Author Scott A. Shane says the entrepreneurs who boost the economy are the few who are larger, well-capitalized and in the hands of professional teams, not sole operators. The multitude of new businesses created every year do little to create jobs or add value, he says.
