SingTel beats the street with first quarter profit gains

Singapore Telecommunications -- Southeast Asia's largest telecom firm by revenue -- reported profits of $759 million for the first quarter, a 3.2% year-over-year gain and well above analysts' estimates. In a forecast for the coming year, SingTel said it expected revenue growth in its two major markets of Singapore and Australia to be in the "low single digits" as the company looks to expand beyond its traditional telecom markets to provide more advanced digital services.
