Calif. Assembly panel OKs amended bill on NPs' scope of practice

A committee of the California State Assembly endorsed a weakened version of a nurse practitioner scope of practice bill. Sen. Ed Hernandez, D-West Covina, the bill's sponsor, removed language that would have allowed independent practice after 6,240 hours of practice. The measure includes independent practice in settings such as clinics, hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, and its next stop is the Assembly's appropriations panel.
