Duke Energy provides cost update for S.C. nuclear project

About $348.7 million has been spent so far on Duke Energy's Lee nuclear project in South Carolina. The company has yet to decide on proceeding with the project but said it remains dedicated to nuclear power in its energy portfolio. "We think about it as being a key option for the replacement of nuclear power [plants] that begin to retire in the early 2030s -- like the Oconee plant and the Robinson plant," said Lynn Good, Duke Energy's president and CEO.
