EU approval of Dow and Monsanto's maize is expected in October

A representative for the European Union's health and consumer policy commissioner said Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences' herbicide-resistant maize SmartStax is expected to be cleared for planting across the European Union by September or October, following a "rigorous, scientific evaluation process." SmartStax is as safe as traditional maize and poses no health risks, the European Food Safety Authority found in 2010.
