Ill. village declines mall owner's offer to post bond guaranteeing start of repairs

A suburban Chicago mall owner's offer to post a surety bond to address safety violations at the facility was rejected by Matteson, Ill., officials, who wanted him to post $100,000 guaranteeing that repairs would begin. Village officials said they had not received a completed renovation plan or a bond for engineering studies and that they are moving ahead with a lawsuit to close the mall.
