Kanter resigns from Education Department

U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha J. Kanter is leaving her post to "return to academia" this fall. Since joining the Education Department as the highest-ranking higher-education official in 2009, Kanter has worked to improve community colleges and promote open educational resources. "She was the one person who really, truly understood what goes on on a college and university campus," said Terry W. Hartle, senior vice president for government and public affairs at the American Council on Education.
