Walgreen began a "Good Faith Dispensing" policy that requires its pharmacists to verify prescriptions for controlled substances, such as painkillers, by seeking information on previous therapies, expected length of treatment and diagnoses. The American Medical Association called the policy an "intrusion into medical practice" that will disrupt and delay care. Cindy Steinberg of the U.S. Pain Foundation said the policy was "going over the line into judging the appropriateness of a prescription."
