Weingarten highlights partnership of St. Louis teachers, district

Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, said during a Tuesday visit to St. Louis that a partnership between the city's district and its teachers' union should be the "model and not the exception." Under the agreement, the union and the district work together to offer training and professional development to struggling teachers and mentors for novice educators, but also to remove those who do not show improvement -- including those with tenure. "We're better together than apart," Superintendent Kelvin Adams said of the union.
