Newborns' genes send signals that indicate bloodstream infections

A newborn's genome can help detect the presence of bacterial infection in the bloodstream, according to a study in the journal Nature Communications. University of Edinburgh researchers studied blood samples and found a genetic signal with 52 molecular characters that could be used to help diagnose sepsis.
