Researchers pursue more human-like processing to liberate robots

An array of analog chips mimics synapses in the human brain to process information stochastically. The goal of the Neurogrid system developed by researchers at Stanford University is to sharply reduce the power needed to carry out calculations and tasks -- a development that could greatly enhance robot functionality -- and also to better understand how human beings themselves process information.
