Judge rejects class-action status in Bayer biotech-rice suit

A federal judge has ruled that claims from farmers over Bayer CropScience's Liberty Link -- an experimental biotech rice that was accidentally released into the public food supply in 2006 -- were too varied to be consolidated into one class-action lawsuit. The company believes it acted responsibly and followed all regulations related to the development of the biotech rice, Bayer General Counsel Bruce Mackintosh said.
