HHS committee proposes CCHIT to be interim health IT certifier

The HHS' Health IT Policy Committee has recommended that the Certification Commission for Health IT be tasked as the only organization to certify or declare health IT systems as HHS-qualified for stimulus funding until a final meaningful use rule is released in December. Certification of such systems could begin in October, the committee said. Dr. David Blumenthal, coordinator of the office of national health IT, is set to review the proposal.
