Experts urge U.S. government to end drilling ban

Some experts believe the federal government should lift its ban on deepwater drilling now that BP has contained the Gulf of Mexico spill. Billy Nungesser, president of Plaquemines Parish, La., said even though oil has been coming ashore for months in his area, he thinks the moratorium should end because offshore drilling generates jobs. George Hirasaki, a Rice University engineering professor, supports the sentiment. "I think what is needed is improved standards and procedures, and not just restrictions on drilling," he said.
