When John Briggs joined his wife's company, design studio Blue Star, he approached the small business like the huge corporations he was used to working for. There weren't many employees, but he pushed for a clear hierarchy and well-defined roles. Eventually, though, he realized giving employees more authority allowed them to get more done quickly.
