Long Island's Mount Sinai School District has reduced its annual energy bill by $350,000 thanks to an energy-reduction campaign that depends heavily on yellow Post-it notes. The notes are used to mark computers and other appliances with the tagline "When not in use, turn off the juice." Elsewhere, New York City and the federal government have funded or provided incentives for school-based energy efficiency projects.
