MGM seeks approval to implode Harmon tower

MGM Resorts International said it has submitted a plan to demolish the unfinished Harmon tower at CityCenter resort in Las Vegas because of "construction-engineering defects" and fears that it is unsafe, reports The Wall Street Journal. MGM said it is seeking Clark County's approval to raze the building. A legal dispute between MGM and Perini Building over unpaid bills says the building cannot be altered until that dispute is resolved. Perini says it is a design rather than a construction problem and the company's "own engineers dispute the contention that the building could be a public safety threat."
