Watering every plant the same is asking for trouble

Plants should be watered according to their needs, especially during dry weather, said James Gill, owner of Gill Landscape Nursery. Lawns should be irrigated longer but less frequently, while shrubs need water every two weeks, Gill said. Trees also need water, and a root feeder might help, said Ted Turner Jr., owner of Turner's Gardenland in Texas.
