Analysts report contraction in global smartphone market in Q2

Sales of smartphones dropped slightly during the second quarter of 2012 as consumers reacted to global economic uncertainty or simply chose to wait for the introduction of the new iPhone, Gartner reports. Manufacturers sold 419 million smartphones during the three months ending in June. That was 2.3% fewer than in the same period last year, despite increases by both Apple and Samsung.
