Aging-related protein emerges as an Alzheimer's disease drug target

C1q protein accumulates on the aging brain's synapses, interfering with the conduction of electrical and chemical signals in the brain and potentially leading to Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases if an immune system attack is triggered, according to a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience.
