An elementary school in Phoenix operates a food bank on campus to better serve disadvantaged students. The food pantry is open to the public, and officials say it also is meant to help serve needy students, who may not have access to food when they leave school. "It's a community food pantry along with Bags of Hope, which are weekly bags of nutritious food nonperishables that are placed in the students' backpacks on Friday," says Linda Washington, director of Parent Education.
