Big Blue has big plans for flash arrays

IBM Flash Systems, the business unit established after Big Blue acquired Texas Memory Systems in 2012, plans to use technology developed by Diablo Technologies to put NAND flash memory devices into dual inline memory modules for servers in 2014, Rick Merritt writes. The unit also plans to design a controller IC for those flash-based DIMMs. IBM's rivals in flash arrays include EMC and Violin Memory, with NetApp expected to enter the market in 2014.
