Pesticide use needs stronger regulation and education in developing nations, according to research outlined in a series of articles published in Science magazine. One solution posited would be to strengthen the Joint FAO/WHO Meeting on Pesticide Residues, a panel of pesticide experts. "We know developing countries don't have the resources to adequately assess the risk of these various chemicals. So the [World Health Organization], together with [the U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization], is providing this regulation to give a framework for evaluating these compounds," said WHO's Philippe Verger, one of the article's authors.
