Consumer borrowing up as Americans grow more confident in economy

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reports that Americans have increased borrowing for homes, cars and consumer goods, showing new confidence in their finances. The bank reports auto loans increased by $20 billion in the second quarter, the largest quarterly gain in seven years. Overall consumer debt, however, is down 12% from its peak in 2008.
