Applebee's and IHOP parent DineEquity is boosting food traceability at its restaurants by signing onto the GS1 US Standards Initiative and requiring suppliers to use the GS1 barcode system, says Quality Systems Manager Brad Clem. "I can foresee customers in the future being able to open a menu at Applebee’s or IHOP, scan a barcode or QR code using their cell phone to help them identify potential allergens and nutritional information for different items. That is the wave of the future," Clem says.
