HTML5 taking center stage in online video distribution

HTML5 is emerging as the primary development target for online video distribution as new features come out to smooth over fragmented browser support, writes Michael Dale. The MediaStream application programming interface out with the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox allows for adaptive streaming, for example. "Per device limitations will continue to exist and require workarounds, but instead of fitting into a Flash-centric world, we will see HTML5 video in the center and per platform workarounds on the edges," Dale writes.
