The limits of at-will employment

You may not be allowed to fire your employees for certain reasons, even if they are working on an at-will basis, writes Betty Wang. "Federal laws generally protect people from being fired based on race, religion, gender, age, and disability; some state laws also include sexual orientation," she writes. Similarly, the law prohibits retaliation against employees who have acted as whistle-blowers.
