Mass. rule would require activity director in dementia units

Regulations proposed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for nursing homes and dementia specialty units call for staff to be trained in how to communicate, engage with and care for a dementia patient. The rules also would require dementia units to have a therapeutic activity director who makes sure patients get a minimum of eight hours of therapeutic activities each day.
