New Calif. law aims to protect transgender youth

California Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation Monday guaranteeing certain rights for transgender students in K-12 public schools. The measure was passed on a largely party-line vote. "This important moment in California will ensure that transgender students have the equal opportunity to succeed in school and graduate on time regardless of their gender identity," said Eliza Byard, executive director of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, in a statement.
