Retractable roof becomes part of renovation plan at NYC tennis arena

Installation of a retractable roof at the Arthur Ashe Stadium has been included in plans for a $500 million renovation at the National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y. This marks a change from the previous plans revealed by the U.S. Tennis Association, which did not include a retractable roof over concerns of the swampy soil under the arena and the size of the space that would fall under the roof. However, the roof would protect tournament schedules from rainy weather, and keep the arena in line with other Grand Slam venues that sport retractable roofs, according to these reports.
