R.I. summer math program goes to the dogs

Students taking part in Northern Lincoln Elementary School's Dog Days of Summer program say learning alongside the program's dogs makes learning math more fun. In one activity, the Rhode Island students learned about rounding to the nearest 10 when making dog treats. Besides math skills, students also are learning valuable life skills, said Susan Pepper, school librarian and program co-founder. "This is all ultimately about life skills," she said, noting that students learn about cooking, caring for animals and their own needs.
