Reality computing takes construction a step further

Reality computing is the next stage in what is likely to be a long progression in how engineers, architects and designers interact with digital data and the physical environment, says Rick Rundell, a technology and innovation strategist at Autodesk. In that sense, it goes beyond BIM to provide "as-built" data, he explains. "We have examples of builders who are regularly scanning buildings while they are under construction to record and create as-built records of systems that will eventually be covered up by drywall and ceiling panels and things," he says.
