Why are third-party API calls so hard?

Using third-party APIs can cause problems for developers because modern browsers limit calls to protect the consumer and the site owner. Cross Site Scripting attacks were once able to insert malicious code simply by having an administrator view a comment, but developers can avoid these limits by using mobile platforms. "The other way around it is to create a friendly, local domain source to call for the APIs," Web developer Shawn DeWolfe said.
