Teachers stock up for classes without tax-break help this year

California teachers are feeling the pinch from the loss this year of both the $250 federal tax deduction and a state tax credit of up to $1,500 for out-of-pocket expenses. The National Education Association is lobbying Congress for legislation to raise the amount of the expense deduction to possibly $500 and make it permanent.
