Textbook company tries ad-supported model

As the price of a year's worth of college textbooks threatens to top $1,000 a year, Minnesota-based start-up Freeload Press is publishing .pdf versions of textbooks online that are available free to students who fill out a survey. Freeload Press isn't offering texts from any of the three largest textbook companies, but increasingly textbook publishers are looking to alternative methods of distribution, including online and mobile devices.
