Study: Average Chicago high school freshmen fail two courses

After the first year of high school, an average Chicago student had a 1.9 GPA and failed an average of 2.6 courses, according to a University of Chicago study focusing on the 2004-2005 school year. Students who missed less than two weeks of school, however, went on to graduate 90% of the time, as did 95% with B averages.
