CMS proposes FDG-PET coverage for cervical cancer initial staging

The CMS has proposed national reimbursement coverage for the use of FDG-PET in early diagnosis of cervical cancer. Specifically, the agency proposes the exam be covered when a doctor decides the procedure is needed to identify the right candidate for an invasive procedure and to determine the location and/or extent of the tumor for treatment. CMS plans to release its proposed decision on Nov. 8 and a final ruling by February next year.
