Studies have indicated that about 33% of feline owners bring their cats to the veterinarian only when they are noticeably ill. "There is a misconception that cats are independent and they don't need the level of care that dogs do," one veterinarian says. The National Take Your Cat to the Vet Week, which runs through Sunday, seeks to raise public awareness about the importance of annual veterinary visits for felines.
