Policymakers to discuss the future of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac

Officials are expected to debate what kinds of mortgage securities should receive government guarantees as they discuss the fate of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. "One reason you need a federal guarantee is to keep mortgage rates in the 6% range that they have been in the past," said Paul Leonard, vice president of government affairs for the housing policy council at The Financial Services Roundtable.
