SEC is not addressing mutual funds' revenue sharing, critics say

Some observers of the mutual fund industry said the SEC isn't going far enough to limit sales fees for mutual funds because of a failure to address revenue sharing among funds and brokerages, an area of little transparency. The SEC proposed capping 12b-1 fees at 0.25% of assets and allowing brokerages to choose how much to charge for upfront sales loads to prompt price competition.
