Tanzania hopes to boost output through biotech cotton

The Tanzania Cotton Board said the country will start cultivating biotech cotton, providing credit to farmers and offering loans for contract farming in order to increase output from an estimated 90,000 metric tons this season to 260,000 by 2014-15. "The timeline for introduction of BT has not been charted but the legal framework is in place," said Marco Mtunga, a regulation officer at the board.
