Tenn. gastroenterologist has long history of research

Knoxville's Dr. Gene Overholt helped develop the first generation of flexible scopes that gastroenterologists use today and, at 73, he continues to research. Over the years, his professional vision led to the country's first endoscopic ambulatory surgery center, and he recently co-authored a journal article on his participation in a national study on a treatment for Barrett's esophagus.
