The graduate student whose efforts to see his girlfriend one last time ignited a security panic at Newark Liberty International Airport has been fined $3,000 by the TSA. Haisong Jiang has already completed 100 hours of community service and paid a $500 fine in the incident, which shut down Terminal C for six hours last January. TSA spokeswoman Ann Davis notes Jiang violated three security regulations, each carrying a potential fine of $11,000. "He was fined an appropriate amount based on his actions," she says.
