Fat around heart is strong predictor of cardiac disease

The amount of pericardial fat found behind the ribcage was a stronger indicator of the likelihood of coronary plaque buildup than obesity and waist size, a study in Radiology found. "This shows a new reason why overweight people have a higher rate of cardiovascular risk and gives the public another reason to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle," said cardiology professor Dr. Gregg Fonarow.
