IHS iSuppli: Cost of lithium-ion batteries to decline

The cost of lithium-ion batteries for mobile electronics will continue to decline in the decade ahead, with lithium ion becoming the cheapest rechargeable battery technology in 2020, according to IHS iSuppli. The lower cost is expected to create opportunities for lithium-ion batteries in electric and hybrid vehicles, the market research firm noted, which will help the market grow from $11.8 billion in 2010 to $53.7 billion in 2020.
