Landscaping can boost the privacy of outdoor spaces, experts say

Outdoor living spaces can be protected from public view with an artistic combination of plants, fences and screens, say landscape designers. Margie Grace of Santa Barbara, Calif., recommends training vines and ornamental plants to grow on fences, and using pergolas, arbors and canopy trees for an outdoor "ceiling." Ornamental grasses and tall trees can also serve as a noise barrier, said landscape designer Julia Fogg.
