Nurse navigators help cancer patients get past medical hurdles

Patient navigators, including nurses, social workers and other staff, are helping patients through services that may include help dealing with insurers and translation for those who don't speak English. At Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, N.M., a team of four nurses and one social worker assists cancer patients in making informed medical decisions and scheduling doctor appointments and follow-ups, as well as walking patients through the whole treatment process and supporting them emotionally.
